Who counters Ahri — hardest matchups & how to play them

The toughest lane matchups for Ahri on the Wild Rift China server, with why each is hard and exactly how to play it.

YasuoAhri vs Yasuo Unfavorable

Why Yasuo counters Ahri: Wind Wall (W) cancels Charm and orbs in one press, and with dashes through the minions he reaches you before your abilities come back up.

How to play Ahri into Yasuo: Trade only when the Wall is spent: at early levels it has a long cooldown. Throw Charm while he is mid-dash: he cannot change its direction. Always keep one R charge to escape his all-in.

→ Yasuo
KassadinAhri vs Kassadin Unfavorable

Why Kassadin counters Ahri: His passive reduces magic damage and his Q gives a magic shield: after his first item your burst barely scratches him, and from level 9 he reaches you anywhere with Riftwalk.

How to play Ahri into Kassadin: Beat on him before 5 with basic attacks and Q: part of your early damage is physical. Use your mid-game lead to close the game; after his 3 items avoid duels.

→ Kassadin
FizzAhri vs Fizz Unfavorable

Why Fizz counters Ahri: His E dodges Charm on command, and after 5 his all-in is faster than yours if he starts first.

How to play Ahri into Fizz: Fake the Charm to make him burn his E, then use the full combo. Against the shark (R), sidestep with your own R — never dash straight backwards.

→ Fizz
ZedAhri vs Zed Unfavorable

Why Zed counters Ahri: After 5 his R punishes you while you stand still casting orbs, and every missed Charm turns into a trade lost twice over.

How to play Ahri into Zed: Always keep one R charge for when he jumps on you with his. Throw Charm at the shadow's return spot: it is his only predictable movement.

→ Zed
OriannaAhri vs Orianna Skill matchup

Why Orianna counters Ahri: A skill matchup: the ball's poke is constant but all of it is dodgeable, and neither of you can kill without jungle help.

How to play Ahri into Orianna: Track the ball's position at all times. Charm her when she recalls it: it travels back slowly and that is your easy window. Win through roaming: you are far faster across the map.

→ Orianna

Who to play with Ahri — best team synergies

The champions Ahri works best alongside on the Wild Rift China server, lane by lane, with the reason each pairing works.

Best Baron partners for Ahri

Ahri + Malphite Best pairing

Unstoppable Force (R) piles them into a single spot, so Orb of Deception (Q) pierces the whole line going out and coming back and Fox-Fire (W) cleans up. He is also the frontline your page says you do not have.

Ahri + Shen Strong

Your page names Zed and Fizz as the divers who reach you before your cooldowns come back: the long-range Shadow Dash (E) taunt pins them on top of you, and Stand United (R) drops a shield on you from across the map.

Ahri + Ornn Strong

His Searing Charge (E) slam into terrain opens a window where you do not even need Charm (E): you dump Orb of Deception (Q) and Fox-Fire (W) on a target already pinned, and his page says he depends on exactly that follow-up.

Ahri + K'Sante Strong

All Out (R) roots the enemy carry and knocks them away from their team: alone, held still, inside your range. Footwork (E) then dashes to you and shares his shield, which is the peel your page says nobody gets from you.

Ahri + Gnar Situational

Worth it where terrain is close by: GNAR! (R) into a wall turns into a group stun and Wallop (W) adds another 1.25 seconds, with everyone lined up for Orb of Deception (Q). In open ground it is worth far less.

Best Jungle partners for Ahri

Ahri + Amumu Best pairing

Cursed Touch (P) makes every point of magic damage they take carry bonus true damage with it, and your kit is magic from start to finish, so it amplifies all of it. Curse of the Sad Mummy (R) stuns 1.5 seconds, so Charm (E) stays banked.

Ahri + Warwick Best pairing

Charm (E) holds for 1.4 seconds and Infinite Duress (R) adds a one-second suppress right after, and nobody escapes that chain. Below 35% health Blood Hunt (W) bonuses surge to 150%, which is exactly where your burst leaves people.

Ahri + Rammus Strong

Frenzying Taunt (E) nails the enemy carry in place, and his page says the team's damage has to do the rest: that damage is you, dumping a full combo on someone who cannot even turn around. He is also the frontline you lack.

Ahri + Xin Zhao Strong

Your page says that with no shield and no peel, getting reached is usually fatal: Crescent Guard (R) knocks back everyone except his marked target and blocks ranged damage, peeling the assassin off you the moment he jumps.

Ahri + Vi Strong

Cease and Desist (R) is unstoppable and point-and-click: the enemy carry can neither dodge it nor be peeled off, and stays put for your whole combo. Her page says that ultimate just gets her killed without damage behind it.

Best Duo (ADC) partners for Ahri

Ahri + Ashe Best pairing

Your stated problem is that Charm (E) gets sidestepped: Frost Shot (P) slows with every single hit, and a slowed target can no longer dodge it. Enchanted Crystal Arrow (R) opens from off-screen and you follow in with Spirit Rush (R).

Ahri + Samira Strong

Her page says she is a mediocre carry unless she reaches point-blank range: Charm (E) walks the target toward you both, so Wild Rush (E) gets in for free and her Daredevil Impulse (P) Style grade climbs while they cannot react for 1.4 seconds.

Ahri + Ezreal Strong

You bring no peel to anyone, so you want a carry who saves himself: Arcane Shift (E) is his exit. In return Charm (E) pins the target, so Mystic Shot (Q) and the slow-travelling Trueshot Barrage (R) simply cannot miss.

Ahri + Jhin Strong

Deadly Flourish (W) roots anyone an ally has just damaged, and a single pass of Orb of Deception (Q) is enough to arm it. Curtain Call (R) then executes from off-screen a target Charm (E) is holding still for 1.4 seconds.

Ahri + Xayah Situational

Worth it when the real problem is that nobody peels for anybody: Featherstorm (R) makes her untargetable on her own, so she never needs the protection you cannot give. On a charmed target Bladecaller (E) lands all three feathers.

Best Support partners for Ahri

Ahri + Morgana Best pairing

Black Shield (E) eats the crowd control that kills you when you get caught with cooldowns down, and Dark Binding (Q) roots for two seconds: longer than Charm (E), and enough for Orb of Deception (Q), Fox-Fire (W) and autos.

Ahri + Leona Strong

The Zenith Blade (E) root into a one-second Shield of Daybreak (Q) stun holds the target without you spending Charm (E) at all. Her page says that if nobody punishes the window she opens, the whole engage is wasted.

Ahri + Karma Strong

Spirit Rush (R) is your only escape and you have nothing when it is down: a Mantra (P) empowered Inspire (E) gives you a shield and movement speed exactly there, while Focused Resolve (W) roots the target you then dive.

Ahri + Nami Strong

Aqua Prison (Q) and Tidal Wave (R) chain two knock-ups back to back, so Charm (E) cannot be sidestepped on a target that is already locked, and Ebb and Flow (W) keeps you alive in the skirmishes your page says you lose.

Ahri + Zilean Situational

It answers the exact thing your page calls fatal, getting caught with cooldowns down: Chronoshift (R) rewinds your death and puts you back on your feet three seconds later. Most valuable against a Zed-style assassin.

How to play Ahri — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips

Ahri, the Nine-Tailed Fox, is a mobile burst mage for the mid lane in Wild Rift, built around landing a hard lockdown rather than trading pure poke damage. She weaves together a piercing orb, a homing fox-fire burst, and a charm that walks the target straight into her kill zone, then resets the fight with up to three dash charges on her ultimate. Her damage is magic and lands in short, decisive bursts rather than sustained DPS, so she's most dangerous isolating a single target in lane or diving in from the flank of a teamfight rather than trading head-on.

Strengths

  • Charm (E) is close to a one-button kill setup - 1.4 seconds of forced movement toward you is enough time to land Q, W, and autoattacks before the target can react.
  • Spirit Rush (R) grants up to three dash charges, and a takedown while it's active refunds one and extends the recast window, giving her far more engage, chase, and escape options than most mages.
  • Essence Theft turns every third landed ability into a 40 HP heal, plus 80 HP if the target dies within 3 seconds, letting her win extended trades that most mages would lose.
  • Orb of Deception (Q) damages on both the outgoing and return trip, so she pokes and clears the wave safely from range without ever needing to walk up.

Weaknesses

  • Outside of Spirit Rush's mobility she has no shield, no hard peel, and little raw tankiness - getting caught with cooldowns down is usually fatal.
  • The whole combo revolves around landing Charm; a dodged or blocked E (a well-timed Wind Wall, a sidestep from Fizz) leaves her with poke damage only and a wasted cooldown.
  • Mobile all-in champions like Zed and Fizz can close the distance before her cooldowns reset, and magic-resistant matchups like Kassadin blunt her burst hard after their first item.
  • She brings almost no protection for teammates beyond her own Charm target, so games are won through picks and personal damage rather than by enabling her team.

Combos

  • Charm (E) into Orb of Deception (Q), Fox-Fire (W), then autoattacks - lock the target in place first so the rest of the combo lands uncontested, and let the returning Q tick as they try to run.
  • Spirit Rush (R) into full combo - use the first dash to close distance on a target who thinks they're safe, then Charm the instant you land before they can react.
  • Orb of Deception (Q) out, wait for the return hit, then Charm - throwing Q first baits a dodge or a step forward, so you only commit E once you know it will actually connect.
  • Kill during Spirit Rush into chain R - if a takedown triggers Essence Theft while Spirit Rush is active, the refunded charge and extended window let you dash straight onto the next target.

Skill order: Q > W > E (take one early point in E for the Charm lockdown; level R whenever it's available at 5/9/13)

Early game

Poke with Orb of Deception whenever you have wave priority - it's low commitment since you're outside Charm range, and every connecting hit builds toward your Essence Theft sustain. Hold Charm until you can follow up immediately, since a whiffed E just hands the opponent a free trade. Your first real power spike lands at level 5, once Spirit Rush gives you the mobility and burst to threaten kills you couldn't take before, especially once your first core item (Malignance or Luden's Echo) comes online. Play a step more cautious into hard-engage lanes like Zed or Fizz before then, since you have no reliable escape beyond flat movement speed.

Mid & late game — teamfighting

From the mid game on, fight from the side rather than head-on: use Spirit Rush to reposition onto an isolated backline target, Charm them toward your team, and dump the rest of your combo before they can react. You provide almost no peel for your own carries, so your value comes from converting picks into a numbers advantage rather than protecting anyone else. Keep at least one Spirit Rush charge in reserve when you can - a takedown while it's active refunds a charge, but a whiffed all-in with none left is a death sentence. Prioritize Charm on the biggest threat in the fight, usually the enemy carry, rather than whoever happens to be closest.

Pro tips

  • Line up Orb of Deception through as many enemies as possible - it damages everything in its path both going out and coming back, so a good angle is worth far more than walking up for a single target.
  • Track the 3-second Essence Theft execute window after your combo - if the target runs at low health, don't disengage immediately, since a death within that window still gives you the full 80 HP heal.
  • Don't spend all three Spirit Rush charges purely to chase - save one to get back out, since the extra charge from a takedown is a bonus, not something to plan around.
