The toughest lane matchups for Gragas on the Wild Rift China server, with why each is hard and exactly how to play it.
Why Warwick counters Gragas: His sustain wins long duels, but your E headbutt interrupts everything he loves doing.
How to play Gragas into Warwick: E his R mid-flight: it interrupts. Trade with W active and the barrel already placed: the belly is tactical, not slow.
→ WarwickWhy Lee Sin counters Gragas: An early mobility duel: his kicks hurt more, your bulk forgives more mistakes.
How to play Gragas into Lee Sin: Do not contest the first scuttle without W ready. Your R flips every 2v2: knock HIM out of the fight and it becomes a 2v1.
→ Lee SinWhy Kindred counters Gragas: She kites your wide body and her zone cancels your engage R: the barrel risks rolling into nothing.
How to play Gragas into Kindred: Use your R to SEPARATE her from her zone: knocking her out of her own R is the billiards shot that wins fights.
→ KindredWhy Vi counters Gragas: R versus R: her homing missile against your billiards. She picks the target, you redraw the fight's geography.
How to play Gragas into Vi: Interrupt her engage Q with your E. And use your R to shove HER away from her target: the best save is geometry.
→ ViWhy Rammus counters Gragas: Magic tank versus armor tank: you ignore each other while the lanes decide the game.
How to play Gragas into Rammus: Win the matchup by NOT playing it: barrels on the lanes, R on the enemy carries. First one to touch a carry wins.
→ RammusGragas is a bruiser mage in Wild Rift who wins fights through positioning rather than pure burst damage: his barrels zone off entire areas of the map, and Body Slam turns his own body into a walking stun. He deals real magic damage, but his headline value is disruption — every cooldown he lands can scatter a formation, cancel an enemy engage, or hand a teammate an easy kill. He's forgiving to pick up early thanks to his bulk, but mastering the timing on his barrel and slam is what separates a Gragas who wins skirmishes from one who just soaks damage.
Skill order: Q > E > W (always take R at 5/9/13)
Lane off Q: roll a barrel onto minions or the enemy laner and time an auto-attack right as it detonates, since a fully fermented barrel deals up to 150% of its base damage and slow. His passive sip after every cast also gives him real sustain, so trade more freely than a typical squishy mage would need to. Save Body Slam for real trades and jungle ganks rather than farming with it — the stun and knockback matter far more with a jungler nearby, and landing it shaves time off its own cooldown so pressure snowballs faster than the tooltip suggests. Look for all-in windows once Drunken Rage, Body Slam, and an empowered auto line up, and don't force a fight when E is down, since it's his only way to close the distance.
From the mid-game on, think of yourself as a space-controller rather than a damage dealer: hover near your backline or the chokepoint you want to hold, and use Body Slam to scatter divers before they ever reach your carries. Hold the ultimate until the enemy team commits and groups up — a well-placed Explosive Cask can knock their entire front line off an objective or away from your ADC, and even a partial hit buys your team time to reset. Because the kit is built around disruption rather than sustained damage, prioritize peeling and repositioning over chasing kills, and let your teammates clean up what the barrels scatter.
