Who counters Dr. Mundo — hardest matchups & how to play them

The toughest lane matchups for Dr. Mundo on the Wild Rift China server, with why each is hard and exactly how to play it.

VayneDr. Mundo vs Vayne Hard counter

Why Vayne counters Dr. Mundo: You are a giant sack of HP and she deals percent max-health damage: the matchup only decides how fast she drains you.

How to play Dr. Mundo into Vayne: Throw cleavers at her movement patterns and farm calmly: you will not kill her, but she cannot remove your teamfight value either. Buy movement speed and stay useful to your team.

→ Vayne
GwenDr. Mundo vs Gwen Hard counter

Why Gwen counters Dr. Mundo: Her entire kit is a shredder for high-HP champions: you are literally her tutorial matchup.

How to play Dr. Mundo into Gwen: There is no good trade: farm with cleavers from range and concede the lane in good order. Buy heavy magic resist and play as team utility.

→ Gwen
FioraDr. Mundo vs Fiora Unfavorable

Why Fiora counters Dr. Mundo: Your huge flanks hand her the easiest Vitals of her life: your legendary sustain becomes her target practice.

How to play Dr. Mundo into Fiora: Rotate your body to deny Vitals and throw the cleaver at her dash. You cannot win the duel: be elsewhere and use your bulk where it matters. Splitpush the opposite side.

→ Fiora
DariusDr. Mundo vs Darius Skill matchup

Why Darius counters Dr. Mundo: Stacks and an execute against infinite regeneration: he wins the moments, you win the long run.

How to play Dr. Mundo into Darius: Never fight at 5 stacks with his R up. Disengage, regenerate, come back: your fuel is free, his is not.

→ Darius
TeemoDr. Mundo vs Teemo Skill matchup

Why Teemo counters Dr. Mundo: His poke and blind are annoying, but you throw cleavers from range and regenerate all of his damage.

How to play Dr. Mundo into Teemo: Arc cleavers onto his movement patterns. The blind does not stop cleavers: you are one of his worst matchups — enjoy it.

→ Teemo

Who to play with Dr. Mundo — best team synergies

The champions Dr. Mundo works best alongside on the Wild Rift China server, lane by lane, with the reason each pairing works.

Best Jungle partners for Dr. Mundo

Dr. Mundo + Amumu Best pairing

Cursed Touch (P) pads every point of magic damage the target takes with bonus true damage, and your kit is almost all magic between Infected Bonesaw (Q) and Heart Zapper (W). Curse of the Sad Mummy (R) is then the hard crowd control you lack.

Dr. Mundo + Diana Strong

Moonfall (R) only works up close: it needs a body holding the middle of the fight, and with Maximum Dosage (R) up that body is you. Her slow keeps the group inside Heart Zapper (W)'s radius right up to the detonation.

Dr. Mundo + Jarvan IV Strong

You have no dash, no blink and no engage, only a slow: Cataclysm (R) shuts you and their carry inside the same ring, where nobody walks in to save her and she cannot step out of Blunt Force Trauma (E) range.

Dr. Mundo + Nunu & Willump Strong

Biggest Snowball Ever! (W) knocks up the front line and Absolute Zero (R) pins the group in a heavy slow: mobile champions circling you are your stated problem, and those two abilities stop them where they stand.

Dr. Mundo + Warwick Strong

Infinite Duress (R) is a point-and-click suppress that reaches the target you would never catch, since the only brake in your kit is the slow on Infected Bonesaw (Q). Warwick also brings the closing damage you do not have.

Best Mid partners for Dr. Mundo

Dr. Mundo + Orianna Best pairing

Heart Zapper (W) pays off by how many enemies it clips: Command: Shockwave (R) gathers them all into a single spot where the detonation catches the lot. Command: Protect (E) meanwhile shields the body that walks in first - yours.

Dr. Mundo + Galio Strong

You hold the middle of the fight and Hero's Entrance (R) lands right on you: five enemies knocked up over your head is the hard crowd control your card says you do not have. Winds of War (Q) scales off max health, so it hurts tanks like you do.

Dr. Mundo + Annie Strong

Your card is blunt: you create pressure but you do not close. Pyromania (P) turns any spell into a guaranteed stun, and with the passive charged even Summon: Tibbers (R) stuns the area: the target stops and Annie provides the finish.

Dr. Mundo + Lissandra Strong

Ring of Frost (W) roots everyone standing on her: if she holds just behind you while you soak, the people beating on you end up frozen inside Heart Zapper (W)'s radius. Frozen Tomb (R) pins whoever survives the detonation.

Dr. Mundo + Swain Strong

Nevermove (E) drags enemies into one spot and Vision of Empire (W) deals 50% more to anything locked down: two health-scaling bodies that refuse to die, and finally somebody who converts the pressure you create into kills.

Best Duo (ADC) partners for Dr. Mundo

Dr. Mundo + Ashe Best pairing

No dash, no blink, just the slow on Infected Bonesaw (Q): Frost Shot (P) slows on every single hit and Enchanted Crystal Arrow (R) stuns from off-screen. That is how a champion this slow ever gets to touch anyone at all.

Dr. Mundo + Jhin Strong

Infected Bonesaw (Q) tags anyone from range, and Deadly Flourish (W) turns into a real root on whoever just took damage from an ally: you hand him targets to pin all game without stepping out of position once.

Dr. Mundo + Kog'Maw Strong

You are the chaos up front eating cooldowns and crowd control; he is the range that turns that time into damage - your card says you rarely close a kill alone. Void Ooze (E) adds the second slow your kit does not have.

Dr. Mundo + Yunara Strong

Arc of Judgment (W) slows to nearly a standstill and keeps pulsing: it is the answer to the mobile champions who circle you while you chase. She meanwhile scales behind a frontline that does not die, which is what you are.

Dr. Mundo + Miss Fortune Situational

Bullet Time (R) is a stationary three-second channel that needs enemies busy elsewhere: you at half health with Maximum Dosage (R) up are the problem they cannot ignore. But you cannot peel for her, so it only pays when teams group.

Best Support partners for Dr. Mundo

Dr. Mundo + Leona Best pairing

Sunlight (P) detonates every time an ally hits a marked target, and you throw Infected Bonesaw (Q) non-stop. The real point is Zenith Blade (E) into Shield of Daybreak (Q): with no dash, you only ever reach someone already locked down.

Dr. Mundo + Thresh Best pairing

Death Sentence (Q) drags in the mobile champion who kites you all game, and Dark Passage (W) is the closest thing to a dash you will ever own: the lantern throws you into the middle of their team at full health.

Dr. Mundo + Karma Strong

Inspire (E) is a shield plus movement speed, and speed is what a champion with no dash actually needs. Transcendent Embrace (R) knocks the group toward its centre, which is straight into Heart Zapper (W)'s detonation radius.

Dr. Mundo + Alistar Strong

Pulverize (Q) into Headbutt (W) is the engage you do not have: it knocks up, then shoves the target exactly where you are standing. Unbreakable Will (R) clears every crowd control off him, so the opening lands even into stun-heavy teams.

Dr. Mundo + Sona Strong

Take her for Song of Celerity (E) and Crescendo (R), not the healing: topping you back up shrinks Blunt Force Trauma (E)'s bonus damage and the max health Maximum Dosage (R) converts from what you are missing. Speed is what gets you there.

Dr. Mundo + Morgana Situational

Goes Where He Pleases (P) already shrugs off the first hard crowd control of an engage: Black Shield (E) covers the second one. Worth it against teams with two real engages, where the second hook is the one that actually stops you.

How to play Dr. Mundo — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips

Dr. Mundo is a Tank in Wild Rift built around chaos and self-preservation rather than clean skill combos. Most of his damage comes as magic damage from thrown cleavers and his electric charge, but Blunt Force Trauma also gives him a real physical-damage steroid for trading in melee. What makes him unique is that his own missing health fuels the kit — the more banged up he gets, the harder he swings and the tankier his ultimate makes him, so he's built to fight from behind rather than avoid damage.

Strengths

  • Extremely sustain-heavy in lane — passive regeneration, the heal on Q, and the detonation heal on W make him brutally hard to poke down or burst in one rotation.
  • Rewards playing at low HP instead of punishing it: missing health directly buffs Blunt Force Trauma's bonus attack damage and Maximum Dosage's bonus max health, so he keeps getting scarier the longer a fight drags on.
  • Passive shrugs off the first hard crowd control of any engage, which often baits enemies into wasting their key ability for nothing.
  • One of the lowest-difficulty tanks in Wild Rift, with a simple, forgiving loop that still brings real lane pressure and split-push threat.

Weaknesses

  • Brings very little hard CC or peel for teammates, so he struggles to lock down a target or protect a carry directly in a fight.
  • Grievous Wounds (healing reduction) is close to a hard counter, since nearly every defensive tool in his kit is a heal.
  • Modest raw damage output means he rarely closes out kills alone and needs teammates ready to capitalize on the pressure he creates.
  • Has no dash, blink, or hard engage — only a slow on Q — so mobile champions can kite him and dictate when fights start.

Combos

  • Q → AA (E) → W — open with Infected Bonesaw for the slow and health-based magic damage, land the empowered auto while they're still slowed, then let Heart Zapper tick and detonate for extra damage and healing.
  • W (pre-charge) → Q → AA (E) — start charging Heart Zapper a beat before a skirmish so it's ready to detonate the instant your cleaver and empowered auto connect, stacking three damage sources at once.
  • Passive (bait CC) → grab canister → re-engage — let Goes Where He Pleases eat the enemy's first hard crowd control, then swing back for the dropped canister to bank bonus healing and a faster passive cooldown before continuing the fight.
  • R → tank the burst → W detonate — pop Maximum Dosage the instant you get focused to convert missing health into bonus max health, then land Heart Zapper's detonation to heal back a big chunk of what you just took.

Skill order: Q > E > W — and take a point in Maximum Dosage (R) every time it's available.

Early game

Farm behind minions with Infected Bonesaw — it deals more damage the higher the target's current health, so poking a full-HP laner is efficient even off mediocre base numbers. Don't be afraid of short trades: between passive regeneration and the heal on Q, you usually win extended exchanges that would kill most other tanks. Use Heart Zapper's channel for safe wave clear when you don't need the damage on a hero, and look for all-in windows once the enemy laner is chipped low enough that your sustain clearly outpaces theirs.

Mid & late game — teamfighting

By mid game, Dr. Mundo's job is to be the chaos anchor at the front of every fight: soak cooldowns and crowd control, throw Q into whichever high-HP or priority target you can reach, and channel Heart Zapper wherever it clips the most enemies before detonating it. Items like Heartsteel and Sunfire Aegis turn this into even more free damage and health, since the kit already scales off health totals. Since he offers little peel, don't waste time babysitting your carries — instead force the enemy to keep dealing with you, and time Maximum Dosage for the moment you get focused so the healing and bonus health flip the exchange in your favor.

Pro tips

  • Track your own missing-health percentage like a resource — sitting at 50-60% HP is often when your trades and ultimate are strongest, so don't panic-recall the second you take damage.
  • Aim cleaver throws at squishy backline targets whenever you can reach them — Infected Bonesaw's damage is based on their current health, so it deletes a much bigger chunk of a full-HP carry than of an already-low front-liner.
  • Always walk back for your dropped canister after tanking a big crowd control ability — it's free healing and cooldown reduction that's easy to forget mid-fight, but it noticeably speeds up your overall sustain loop.
