Who counters Darius — hardest matchups & how to play them

The toughest lane matchups for Darius on the Wild Rift China server, with why each is hard and exactly how to play it.

VayneDarius vs Vayne Hard counter

Why Vayne counters Darius: You never catch her: Tumble slips out of your E range, percent-health damage melts even tanks, and Condemn pins you when you try to force.

How to play Darius into Vayne: Ask for repeated ganks before level 5. Freeze the wave near your tower: she has to walk up to farm. Hold your E until her Tumble is spent, never before.

→ Vayne
KayleDarius vs Kayle Unfavorable

Why Kayle counters Darius: Her bonus movement escapes your E and after 9 she kites you forever; her R cancels your execute exactly when you need it.

How to play Darius into Kayle: Destroy her before her level 5: every wave is an all-in opportunity. Take Ghost instead of Flash to stay glued to her. Force objectives early: your timer runs out when hers begins.

→ Kayle
GnarDarius vs Gnar Unfavorable

Why Gnar counters Darius: The jump matchup: as Mini he pokes you and hops out of reach, and he chooses to fight only with Mega ready.

How to play Darius into Gnar: Use E when his jump is on cooldown: the entire lane lives there. Trade when his rage bar is low. With Ghost you catch him in every fight he cannot interrupt.

→ Gnar
FioraDarius vs Fiora Skill matchup

Why Fiora counters Darius: A pure skill duel: her Riposte against your E or R is the moment of truth. If she wastes it she dies, if she reads it right you do.

How to play Darius into Fiora: Fake the E to make her burn Riposte: the animation resembles your W. Use R only once Riposte is spent. Fight with your back to a wall to deny her Vitals.

→ Fiora
JaxDarius vs Jax Skill matchup

Why Jax counters Darius: His Counter Strike cancels your basic attacks but not the outer edge of your Q. He scales with time, you own the first half of the game.

How to play Darius into Jax: Hit the outer edge of Q DURING his Counter Strike: it is not a basic attack, it goes through. Short trades until he has 2 items, then move with your team. Aim to close by the quarter-hour.

→ Jax

Who to play with Darius — best team synergies

The champions Darius works best alongside on the Wild Rift China server, lane by lane, with the reason each pairing works.

Best Baron partners for Darius

Darius + Malphite Best pairing

Your own card says they disengage the moment Hemorrhage (P) climbs toward five stacks: after Unstoppable Force (R) they can't. Five bodies floored and stacked are five targets for Decimate (Q)'s outer blade and a chain of Noxian Guillotine (R) resets.

Darius + Ornn Best pairing

You have no gap closer beyond Apprehend (E): Volcanic Rupture (Q) plants a wall behind the target and Searing Charge (E) crashes them into it for a 1.25-second knock-up. That's terrain in every skirmish, not one ultimate per fight.

Darius + Sett Strong

The Show Stopper (R) rips an isolated carry out of position and slams them down right in front of you: home delivery for a champion with no dash. Facebreaker (E) meanwhile stuns whenever enemies get caught on both sides of him.

Darius + Shen Strong

Shadow Dash (E) is a long-range taunt: the target can't retreat while Hemorrhage (P) climbs, and retreating is the only thing that beats you. Stand United (R) covers the flank you pushed one step too deep instead.

Darius + K'Sante Strong

All Out (R) hurls a carry away from their team and roots it. Your own card tells you to flank one isolated target instead of trading with their tank: he manufactures one every fight, already pinned in place.

Darius + Gnar Situational

When GNAR! (R) slams their team into a wall it leaves you a stunned pile for Decimate (Q) and the Noxian Guillotine (R) resets. It depends on Rage Gene (P) being full at the right moment and on there being a wall: you can't schedule it.

Best Mid partners for Darius

Darius + Galio Best pairing

Your own card says diving first and burning every cooldown gets you killed for free: Hero's Entrance (R) arrives on top of you with a five-man knock-up and a shield. His 2.5-second telegraph doesn't matter, because Apprehend (E) already dragged them into the circle.

Darius + Lissandra Strong

Ring of Frost (W) into Frozen Tomb (R) is nearly three seconds where the target simply cannot walk away: that's precisely the window you need to stack Hemorrhage (P) to five and trigger Noxian Might.

Darius + Swain Strong

Nevermove (E) roots and then pulls the group in: nobody leaves while you stack. And Vision of Empire (W) deals 50% bonus damage to anything already locked down, so your Apprehend (E) buys him an upgraded burst on top of a motionless target.

Darius + Orianna Strong

Command: Shockwave (R) collects enemies into a single spot: Decimate (Q)'s outer blade catches the whole pile, heals you off it and leaves Hemorrhage (P) on half their team, with Noxian Guillotine (R) ready to chain from body to body.

Darius + Taliyah Strong

Your stated counter is anything that gets away: Weaver's Wall (R) cuts the map in half and shuts the escape route, and Unraveled Earth (E) cancels and stuns whoever tries to dash out of your range. Against dash-heavy teams it's the most direct answer there is.

Darius + Veigar Situational

Event Horizon (E) is the exact cage for opponents who beat you just by walking away, and inside it you reach five stacks at your leisure. But Veigar sits at a 45.7% win rate in China: only take him if the player can actually place it.

Best Duo (ADC) partners for Darius

Darius + Ashe Best pairing

You have no gap closer and your opponents know it: Enchanted Crystal Arrow (R) stuns for up to 3.5 seconds from off-screen and buys you the time to simply walk in. Then Frost Shot (P) slows on every hit, so nobody leaves Decimate (Q) range again.

Darius + Kalista Strong

Fate's Call (R) launches her Oathsworn into the enemy team, knocking up everyone it hits: that is literally the dash your kit doesn't have. She has to bond with you at the start and stay near you, though, or it stays a support-only tool.

Darius + Jhin Strong

Deadly Flourish (W) roots anyone who has just taken damage from an ally: one Decimate (Q) switches it on and the target stays pinned while Hemorrhage (P) climbs. Curtain Call (R) then finishes whoever runs at low health, which is where you can't reach.

Darius + Lucian Strong

Ardent Blaze (W) marks the target and hands 65 bonus movement speed to whichever ally follows up on that mark: the ally is you, and speed is the one thing you're missing to close the gap while Apprehend (E) is down.

Darius + Varus Situational

Chain of Corruption (R) roots and spreads from one enemy to the next: when they're close together it hands you a whole group standing still while you stack. The catch is that you're not the one grouping them, so it pays in compositions that fight tight.

Best Support partners for Darius

Darius + Thresh Best pairing

Death Sentence (Q) drags the target to you and stuns for 1.5 seconds: it's the gap closer your kit doesn't have, paid for on someone else's cooldown. And The Box (R) shuts the exits exactly while Hemorrhage (P) is climbing to five.

Darius + Leona Best pairing

Zenith Blade (E), Shield of Daybreak (Q) and Solar Flare (R) are the longest single-target CC chain in the game. Your all-in telegraphs itself and they walk out of it: this is how it lands anyway.

Darius + Rell Strong

Magnet Storm (R) yanks grouped enemies in and holds them there: Decimate (Q)'s outer blade catches all of them at once and heals you off it. Shattering Strike (Q) meanwhile breaks shields, which are what most often denies you the execute.

Darius + Maokai Strong

Twisted Advance (W) roots from range and Nature's Grasp (R) roots again later in the same fight: two separate windows where the target cannot walk away from you, which is the only defence they have.

Darius + Lulu Strong

Whimsy (W) on you is the speed you're missing to get there, and Rampant Growth (R) gives you bonus health plus a knock-up around you the moment you're in: that's how you survive the seconds it takes to stack Hemorrhage (P) to five.

Darius + Nautilus Situational

Dredge Line (Q) into Depth Charge (R) is a lockdown chain that can't be dodged, and Staggering Blow (P) roots off a single auto-attack. He sits at a 48.1% win rate in China though: you take him for the hooks, not because he's strong this patch.

How to play Darius — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips

Darius, Wild Rift's Hand of Noxus, is a snowbally top lane Fighter built to win extended trades and turn a single good fight into an unstoppable lead. He deals almost purely physical damage, backed by permanent armor penetration from Apprehend's passive, and piles Hemorrhage stacks onto whoever he fights until the bleed and a burst of bonus attack damage make the duel unwinnable for them. His execute-style ultimate, Noxian Guillotine, hits harder the more Hemorrhage stacks are on the target, so once he's ahead he's less a lane bully and more a self-perpetuating snowball hunting kill after kill.

Strengths

  • Dominates extended trades and duels — once Hemorrhage reaches 5 stacks he gains Noxian Might's bonus attack damage and can flatten almost any other Fighter who stands and fights him.
  • Elite lane sustain: landing Decimate's outer blade on an enemy champion heals him for a chunk of missing health (up to 45% over a fight), letting him win trades other top laners simply can't survive.
  • Noxian Guillotine is a true-damage execute that scales harder with every Hemorrhage stack and fully resets on a kill, so one finished target can chain straight into hunting the next.
  • Snowballs faster than almost any other Fighter — Crippling Strike refunding its cooldown and mana on a kill means one won duel accelerates directly into pressuring the next fight.

Weaknesses

  • No real gap closer beyond Apprehend's pull range and R's champion-only dash, so hyper-mobile kiters and disengage tools (think Vayne, Kayle, or a well-timed Gnar hop) can simply stay out of his kill range.
  • Everything telegraphs: experienced opponents disengage the moment they see Hemorrhage climbing toward 5 stacks, denying him the Noxian Might payoff entirely.
  • Skill-testing duelists like Fiora or Jax can neutralize a whole all-in with one well-read block or parry, turning his win condition into their punish window instead.
  • Brings almost no CC or utility for his team, and without a lead he struggles to force fights on his terms against ranged or scaling carries who simply kite the duel.

Combos

  • Apprehend → Decimate (outer blade) — pull the target into range and time Q so the blade edge lands; this is the whole lane trade in two abilities, dealing big damage, healing you, and applying Hemorrhage.
  • Decimate (outer blade) → Auto-Attack → Crippling Strike → Auto-Attack — the core stacking sequence: every hit adds Hemorrhage, and W's slow keeps the target from just walking out of range.
  • Apprehend → Q → Auto-Attack → W → R — the full level-5 all-in: pull, land the blade, keep stacking with autos, lock the slow, then finish with the execute once they're low or fully stacked.
  • Noxian Guillotine engage → Crippling Strike — jump straight onto an exposed backline target with R, then W to strip their escape speed before the rest of their team can peel; the flank pattern for teamfights.

Skill order: Q > E > W

Early game

Before level 5, shove the wave with Decimate's inner swing for fast clear, then look for moments to land Apprehend and force a trade on your terms — the outer blade of Q hits hard and heals you, so almost any fight you start yourself favors you. Play patient rather than reckless: he doesn't need to all-in every wave, just to punish the enemy laner whenever they misstep, since even partial Hemorrhage stacks add up across a full lane phase. Once Noxian Guillotine unlocks at 5, any fight that gets the opponent to 5 stacks is usually lethal, so start looking for a real kill window instead of only trading for stacks.

Mid & late game — teamfighting

From the mid game on, Darius wants to flank rather than walk straight into the enemy frontline — Apprehend or a Noxian Guillotine dash onto an exposed carry does far more than trading blows with their tank. Pick one target, usually the squishiest champion he can actually reach, chain the pull or R into Crippling Strike to strip their escape speed, and let Hemorrhage stacks and Noxian Might carry the damage race; a kill instantly resets his ultimate so he can jump straight to the next target and keep the fight snowballing. Positioning decides everything here — diving in first and burning every cooldown before reaching anyone gets him killed for free, while a well-timed flank off a peel or a mistake can single-handedly win the fight.

Pro tips

  • Always aim for Decimate's outer blade rather than the center — the extra damage, healing, and guaranteed Hemorrhage stack are worth the split-second of positioning it takes.
  • Play around your own stack count, not just the enemy's health bar: an all-in only pays off once you actually reach 5 Hemorrhage stacks and trigger Noxian Might, so commit with that timing in mind instead of chipping away and backing off.
  • Save Flash to finish a kill rather than to start the fight — Apprehend is your real gap closer, so hold Flash for the moment your target tries to run at 5 stacks or low health.
