Who counters Talon — hardest matchups & how to play them

The toughest lane matchups for Talon on the Wild Rift China server, with why each is hard and exactly how to play it.

GalioTalon vs Galio Hard counter

Why Galio counters Talon: A magic tank with a taunt: your physical burst does not dent him and every all-in ends taunted under his tower.

How to play Talon into Galio: This is not a lane: shove with W and live on the map. Your wall hops are worth double against a slow roamer like him.

→ Galio
LissandraTalon vs Lissandra Unfavorable

Why Lissandra counters Talon: An AoE root on your entry and self-R against the execute: she neutralizes you all by herself.

How to play Talon into Lissandra: Hop the wall BEHIND her to bypass the frontal root. And punish her right after the root is spent on minions.

→ Lissandra
MalphiteTalon vs Malphite Unfavorable

Why Malphite counters Talon: His armor grows by feeding on exactly your damage type, and the Q poke strips the health you need for the all-in.

How to play Talon into Malphite: Perpetual roam: the lane is lost but the map is yours. Black Cleaver as soon as possible to drill the front line.

→ Malphite
DianaTalon vs Diana Unfavorable

Why Diana counters Talon: Shield against your burst and magic damage against your assassin's armor: in the mid-game 2v2 she is worth more than you.

How to play Talon into Diana: Poke with W and short trades before 5. After it, enter ONLY while her shield is on cooldown.

→ Diana
Twisted FateTalon vs Twisted Fate Skill matchup

Why Twisted Fate counters Talon: The yellow card punishes your hop, but he is cracker-fragile if you enter while he is still picking it.

How to play Talon into Twisted Fate: Enter right after he spends cards on the wave. Follow his ults: if YOU arrive first in a lane, you win the cross-map trade.

→ Twisted Fate

Who to play with Talon — best team synergies

The champions Talon works best alongside on the Wild Rift China server, lane by lane, with the reason each pairing works.

Best Baron partners for Talon

Talon + Shen Best pairing

You come in over a wall with Assassin's Path (E) and end up alone in the middle of them: Stand United (R) is the only way anyone reaches you there, and it arrives with a shield. Shadow Dash (E) taunts whoever cut your combo short.

Talon + Camille Best pairing

The Hextech Ultimatum (R) locks a carry inside a zone she can't leave and shoves away anyone who would peel for her: the isolated, unshielded target Blade's End (P) is built to detonate on. You walk in, three stacks, one auto-attack.

Talon + Ornn Strong

Your page says armor stackers give you trouble: Brittle from Bellows Breath (W) adds max-health magic damage and stretches the Searing Charge (E) knock-up by 30%, which is exactly the time you need to detonate Blade's End (P).

Talon + Irelia Strong

Vanguard's Edge (R) splits the fight in half with a wall of blades: the carry you want stays on your side of it, with no front line covering her. Flawless Duet (E) stuns her for exactly as long as Rake (W) into Noxian Diplomacy (Q) takes.

Talon + K'Sante Strong

All Out (R) rips a carry out of their front line and roots her: motionless and alone is the only state in which your burst actually kills. Before level 5, the third Ntofo Strikes (Q) is a pulling shockwave with a stun that lands your gank.

Best Mid partners for Talon

Talon + Twisted Fate Best pairing

Before committing to a flank you need to know where all five of them are: Destiny (R) tells you without making you leave the jungle. Then Pick a Card (W) on the Gold Card holds your target for 1.25 seconds, the full length of your combo.

Talon + Galio Best pairing

Hero's Entrance (R) announces itself with a 2.5-second circle on the ground and everyone watches it: that is the free flank you come in from. And when it lands it takes away whoever broke your combo, which is the only way you ever die.

Talon + Lissandra Strong

Your combo is not instant: Rake (W) has to travel back, then the Q lands, then the auto. Ring of Frost (W) and Frozen Tomb (R) hold the same target still long enough for you to reach the end of it, instead of detonating on someone already gone.

Talon + Zoe Strong

Sleepy Trouble Bubble (E) puts whoever drifted from the group to sleep from range: you get the pick without hunting for the right wall for Assassin's Path (E). And her magic damage opens up the tanks your all-physical burst can't get through.

Talon + Ahri Strong

A jungle assassin and a roaming mid play the same game: Charm (E) locks the target and pulls it out of position, and Spirit Rush (R) brings her into the pick with you. Against one physical and one magic burst, no single resistance item covers them.

Best Duo (ADC) partners for Talon

Talon + Ashe Best pairing

A level-three gank with no slow does not happen, and yours only comes from Rake (W): Frost Shot (P) puts a slow on every single hit, so all you do is walk out of the bush. Hawkshot (E) meanwhile checks your flank before you move at all.

Talon + Jhin Strong

The Rake (W) dagger fan clips their carry from outside melee range, and that is all it takes: Deadly Flourish (W) turns that damage into a real root. And every takedown plants a Captive Audience (E) trap: free vision right where the next pick happens.

Talon + Miss Fortune Strong

Your level-three gank runs on one slow, the one from Rake (W): Make It Rain (E) lays another one across the whole area, and the Double Up (Q) bounce reaches even someone hiding behind the wave. Bot becomes the lane you keep coming back to.

Talon + Kalista Situational

If she picks you as her Oathsworn, Fate's Call (R) becomes the plan B your kit does not have: it drags you back the moment the combo failed and you would be standing in melee. It runs on her timing, though, and she usually bonds her support.

Best Support partners for Talon

Talon + Morgana Best pairing

You are the one champion a single stun deletes twice over: it breaks your combo and it also interrupts the Shadow Assault (R) stealth. Morgana puts Black Shield (E) on you before the engage, and that stun simply never arrives at all.

Talon + Thresh Best pairing

Death Sentence (Q) rips a body away from their team and The Box (R) shuts out whoever would come get it: the isolated target, served without you having to find the angle. And if the combo does not close, Dark Passage (W) pulls you out.

Talon + Senna Strong

Curse of the Black Mist (E) lets you walk in camouflaged: you reach their carry without depending on the right wall for Assassin's Path (E) and without lighting up a ward. Then Dawning Shadow (R) reaches you with a shield from any distance.

Talon + Zilean Strong

Two Time Bomb (Q) casts on the same target detonate the first one: a 1.2-second stun from range, so your gank starts already locked down. And Chronoshift (R) rewinds you when the all-in did not kill and you have nothing left.

Talon + Leona Strong

Your kit produces not one instant of crowd control: Zenith Blade (E) roots their carry and carries Leona onto her, then Solar Flare (R) pins her there. All that's left for you is picking when Rake (W) and Noxian Diplomacy (Q) land together.

Talon + Pyke Situational

You roam together and you vanish together: Ghostwater Dive (W) hides him while you come in over a wall, and Death From Below (R) executes under roughly 250 health, which is about where Blade's End (P) leaves the target. A first-fifteen-minutes duo, though.

How to play Talon — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips

Talon is a mid-lane assassin in Wild Rift built entirely around one clean burst window: almost every ability applies a stack of his Blade's End passive, and detonating three stacks with a single auto-attack turns his physical damage into a nasty bleed that ends duels in seconds. He plays less like a slow-burn mage-killer and more like a duelist looking for one perfect dive - dash in with Noxian Diplomacy (Q), fan out Rake (W) for stacks and a slow, then vanish behind Shadow Assault's (R) stealth before the enemy can respond. He is at his most terrifying hunting one isolated target, and noticeably weaker the moment a fight drags into a messy teamfight.

Strengths

  • Devastating single-target burst - Q, W, and R all feed the Blade's End passive, so three stacks detonated by one auto-attack can delete a squishy target almost instantly.
  • Elite pick potential - the dash on Noxian Diplomacy and the wall-hop on Assassin's Path let him appear from angles the enemy has not warded, punishing anyone caught alone.
  • Snowballs hard off a single kill - a kill with Noxian Diplomacy heals him and cuts its cooldown by 65%, and finishing an enemy while they are bleeding from Blade's End grants extra decaying move speed, so one takedown often chains straight into the next.
  • Hard to lock down mid-fight - Shadow Assault's stealth and bonus move speed let him dodge skillshots or reposition for a second burst window instead of just dying after his first engage.

Weaknesses

  • All burst, no sustain - once his combo is spent he has nothing left; if the all-in does not kill, he is just a fragile champion standing in melee range.
  • Very low survivability - no shield, no sustain, and thin defensive stats mean any burst or crowd control that lands on him first can flip the duel instantly.
  • Crumbles to hard CC - a stun, root, or taunt during his engage window cancels his follow-up, and can even interrupt Shadow Assault's stealth if he is caught mid-vanish.
  • Struggles against defensive scaling and shields - tanks whose armor grows from being hit and allies who can shield a target blunt his one burst window with nothing left to punish it.

Combos

  • Rake (W) -> Noxian Diplomacy (Q) -> Auto-Attack: the dagger fan hits once going out and once coming back for two Blade's End stacks, Q's stab adds the third, and a single auto-attack detonates the bleed - the core combo most kills come from.
  • Shadow Assault (R) -> Noxian Diplomacy (Q): open with the blade ring for stealth and bonus move speed, then dash straight onto the target with Noxian Diplomacy - breaking stealth this way pulls the returning blades through that same enemy for extra damage instead of wherever the ring happens to pass.
  • Auto-Attack (3-stack bleed) -> Noxian Diplomacy: if the Blade's End bleed leaves a target barely alive, taking the kill with Noxian Diplomacy itself refunds most of its cooldown and heals you, letting you immediately dash onto a second target or disengage.
  • Assassin's Path (E) over a wall -> Rake (W) -> Noxian Diplomacy (Q): hop an unwarded wall to appear from an angle the enemy is not watching before starting the standard burst combo - the surprise is often worth more than any extra damage.

Skill order: Q > W > E, leveling Shadow Assault (R) at 5, 9, and 13

Early game

Talon's lane phase is about short, violent trades rather than long fights: use Rake (W) to poke, clear the wave, and stack wound on your opponent, then look for a level 2-3 all-in the instant the enemy overextends or burns a key ability. Because a kill with Noxian Diplomacy (Q) refunds most of its cooldown and heals you, closing out one good trade can snowball into a second kill before the enemy can regroup or recall. Use Assassin's Path (E) over side walls to roam bot or top for uncontested ganks - Talon's threat comes from angles the enemy has not warded, not from a frontal fight. Play patiently into lanes with shields or hard engage, since he has no way to sustain through a trade that goes wrong.

Mid & late game — teamfighting

From the mid-game on, Talon is a flank-and-pick specialist rather than a frontline brawler: sit on the edge of vision, let the enemy front line commit, then dive the backline carry the instant their peel is spent or they drift out of position. Open with Rake (W) at range to start stacking wound, dash in with Noxian Diplomacy (Q), and lean on Shadow Assault's (R) stealth and speed to survive the return fire before recasting it to pull the blades back through the target for the finishing hit. Save the stealth window for when you genuinely need to escape or reset onto a second target - popping Shadow Assault as your opener into a grouped enemy team just reveals your position and invites every stun they have. If the first dive does not land a kill, disengage instead of forcing a second all-in with nothing left on cooldown.

Pro tips

  • Track enemy hard-CC cooldowns before committing - a stun, root, or taunt landing mid-combo turns your all-in into a free kill for the other team.
  • Use Assassin's Path proactively as an approach path, not only as an escape - hopping in from over an unwarded wall wins more fights than any extra damage from items.
  • Break Shadow Assault's stealth yourself with an auto-attack or Noxian Diplomacy instead of waiting it out - it pulls the returning blades straight through your target for a guaranteed second hit rather than wherever the ring happens to pass.
