Who counters Nilah — hardest matchups & how to play them

The toughest lane matchups for Nilah on the Wild Rift China server, with why each is hard and exactly how to play it.

CaitlynNilah vs Caitlyn Hard counter

Why Caitlyn counters Nilah: Melee against the longest range in the game: every cs costs blood and traps punish your only dash.

How to play Nilah into Caitlyn: Take only the minions you can afford and grow on experience: your passive helps. After 5 your R all-in surprises her: one mistake of hers is enough.

→ Caitlyn
AsheNilah vs Ashe Unfavorable

Why Ashe counters Nilah: A constant slow on your only gap closer: you always arrive in slow motion where speed was required.

How to play Nilah into Ashe: Use W during the entry: her basic attacks get dodged. Dash to the target BEHIND her to bypass the frontal kiting.

→ Ashe
EzrealNilah vs Ezreal Unfavorable

Why Ezreal counters Nilah: Safe poke and a blink: exactly the two right tools against a melee that lives on clean entries.

How to play Nilah into Ezreal: Q plus dash ONLY while his E is on cooldown. Your W nullifies his attacks: use it to cross the poke zone.

→ Ezreal
SamiraNilah vs Samira Skill matchup

Why Samira counters Nilah: A mirror of melee chaos: her W against yours, her resets against your vacuum R.

How to play Nilah into Samira: Your W dodges HER attacks: activate it inside her all-in. R once her dash is spent: without resets she is simply exposed.

→ Samira
VayneNilah vs Vayne Skill matchup

Why Vayne counters Nilah: Two late-game duelists: her Condemn against your dash, her invisibility against your W.

How to play Nilah into Vayne: Never dash with a wall at your back. W on her attack bursts. Your 2v2 with the support is stronger: play as a pair, she is alone.

→ Vayne

Who to play with Nilah — best team synergies

The champions Nilah works best alongside on the Wild Rift China server, lane by lane, with the reason each pairing works.

Best Baron partners for Nilah

Nilah + Malphite Best pairing

Apotheosis (R) drags them together and Unstoppable Force (R) knocks them up in the same spot: two group-wide holds back to back. You stay in the middle swinging, which is where Joy Unending (P) refills your health on every crit. Ground Slam (E) cuts their attacks.

Nilah + Ornn Strong

Your engine is Slipstream (E) connecting over and over: Brittle from Bellows Breath (W) stretches every crowd control by 30%, so targets stay where Apotheosis (R) left them. Call of the Forge God (R) meanwhile knocks up an entire line of them.

Nilah + Rumble Strong

The Equalizer (R) covers a huge zone with a 45% slow: drop it on the pile Apotheosis (R) has just dragged together and nobody walks out. Flamespitter (Q) wants the same enemies stuck in melee that you are already holding there.

Nilah + Singed Strong

Jubilant Veil (W) stops neither abilities nor crowd control - it says so on your own card. Fling (E) pulls the diver off you and Mega Adhesive (W) stops them dashing straight back in, which is the one way Slipstream (E) gets shut down.

Nilah + Gnar Situational

As Mega, Crunch (E) gathers them and Wallop (W) stuns the group: more bodies close together means more targets for the Formless Blade (Q) cone and more healing. Rage Gene (P) decides the timing, though, and you would rather choose it.

Best Mid partners for Nilah

Nilah + Orianna Best pairing

Command: Shockwave (R) yanks their team into one spot and Apotheosis (R) keeps it there: inside that pile every crit heals you and the Formless Blade (Q) cone hits four bodies. Command: Protect (E) on you adds a shield and resistances as you go in.

Nilah + Kennen Strong

Slicing Maelstrom (R) pulses every half second and keeps reapplying Mark of the Storm (P) to everyone: on the group Apotheosis (R) has just packed together the third stack lands on all of them, a team-wide stun while you swing inside it.

Nilah + Swain Strong

Demonic Ascension (R) drains everyone standing near him and Nevermove (E) pulls them in: he wants the enemy bunched for exactly the same reason you do. He is also a second body in the middle, so you are not the only one soaking the focus.

Nilah + Galio Strong

You are fragile until the crit items land, and Jubilant Veil (W) does not cover abilities. Hero's Entrance (R) drops onto you with a shield and an area knock-up exactly when they have interrupted Slipstream (E) and you are about to die in the middle.

Nilah + Brand Situational

Pyroclasm (R) bounces between nearby enemies and Conflagration (E) spreads Blaze (P) through the pile: on a group dragged together by Apotheosis (R) the chains never break. It needs you to open, though, and not every game lets you.

Best Duo (ADC) partners for Nilah

Nilah + Miss Fortune Best pairing

Bullet Time (R) only pays off on enemies that cannot move: Apotheosis (R) drags them into one spot and slows them, and Make It Rain (E) lays a second slow on top. It is the pair of ultimates that ends a fight on its own.

Nilah + Samira Strong

Jubilant Veil (W) covers your closest ally, and the only one standing inside the brawl with you is her: attack immunity and magic damage reduction for two. Inferno Trigger (R) then wants the very pile Apotheosis (R) gathers.

Nilah + Varus Strong

Chain of Corruption (R) roots the first target and spreads to those beside them: on the cluster Apotheosis (R) just pulled together it locks every one of them, and you keep hitting still targets while Slipstream (E) keeps refreshing.

Nilah + Zeri Situational

Lightning Crash (R) refunds its own duration on every hit on a champion: inside the pile your Apotheosis (R) is holding, it simply stops running out. Zeri sits under a 50% win rate, though, and it all hangs on your gather landing.

Best Support partners for Nilah

Nilah + Morgana Best pairing

Crowd control that interrupts Slipstream (E) turns off your damage, your healing and your mobility all at once - your own card says so. Black Shield (E) eats it before it lands, and Dark Binding (Q) holds a target still for two seconds of crits.

Nilah + Rell Strong

Magnet Storm (R) drags scattered enemies in toward her: two gathers in the same fight alongside Apotheosis (R). Shattering Strike (Q) breaks the shields that would eat your crits, and being melee she is the one who picks up Jubilant Veil (W).

Nilah + Sona Strong

Crescendo (R) stuns the front of the pile you have just gathered, and her auras keep you standing while you soak damage in melee. Song of Celerity (E) gives you the speed to cross the poke you are forced to walk through on foot.

Nilah + Karma Strong

You have to walk through poke and zoning just to start doing damage: an empowered Inspire (E) gives you a shield and speed for exactly that stretch. Focused Resolve (W) then roots the target you are about to throw Slipstream (E) at.

Nilah + Braum Situational

Unbreakable (E) intercepts the projectiles that punish you while you walk into melee, and Concussive Blows (P) stacks off your hits until it stuns. His shield works behind the line, though, and you live inside theirs.

How to play Nilah — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips

Nilah is a melee marksman in Wild Rift who trades a bow for a whip, dealing physical damage up close while turning every critical strike into healing, bonus damage, and armor penetration. She plays less like a poke ADC and more like a sustained duelist who dashes through fights with Slipstream, then closes out teamfights with an AoE ultimate that pulls enemies together and heals her whole team. If you like all-in brawling over kiting from max range, she's one of the most rewarding marksmen to build around.

Strengths

  • Snowballs hard off crit items: her passive heals off every critical hit, and Formless Blade converts that same crit chance directly into extra damage and armor penetration.
  • Incredible extended duelist thanks to Slipstream refreshing its cooldown on every hit, letting her chain dashes to keep attacking, healing, and repositioning as long as she keeps connecting.
  • Apotheosis is a teamfight-swinging ultimate on its own: it slows and drags a grouped enemy team together while healing and shielding Nilah and nearby allies off the damage she deals.
  • Can peel for a teammate directly, not just herself: Jubilant Veil shares its immunity to basic attacks (turrets excluded), bonus movement speed and magic damage reduction with her closest ally.

Weaknesses

  • Melee range on a marksman means she has to walk through poke, zoning, and wave control just to get started, so lane phase against a ranged bot lane duo is uncomfortable.
  • Very fragile before her crit items come online, with no hard CC or defensive stat to fall back on, so early all-ins get punished hard.
  • Her whole engine runs on Slipstream connecting: hard peel, kiting, or CC that interrupts the dash shuts down her damage, healing, and mobility all at once.
  • Jubilant Veil reduces magic damage and makes basic attacks miss, but it doesn't cleanse or block crowd control — and it does nothing against abilities — so it's a weak answer to a team that hard-engages with lockdown.

Combos

  • E -> Q -> AA: Dash in with Slipstream and cast Formless Blade while still moving so it leaves a return wave that hits again on the way back, then auto-attack to collect the cone damage from Q's on-hit buff.
  • Q -> AA -> E: Poke first with Formless Blade to soften the target and trigger its attack speed and range buff, auto for the cone hit, then finish with Slipstream - a connecting hit refreshes the dash for the follow-up or the disengage.
  • R -> E -> AA: Open a grouped fight with Apotheosis to slow and start pulling the enemy team together, dash with Slipstream onto the priority target it exposes, then keep auto-attacking while the ultimate's healing sustains you through the exchange.
  • W (peel): Drop Jubilant Veil beside a teammate about to die under dive pressure — the shared attack immunity, speed and magic resist is often enough to turn a guaranteed kill into a reset. It won't stop abilities, so time it against the auto-attack damage.

Skill order: Q > E > W

Early game

Respect that you're a melee marksman before you're a marksman: don't walk up for a free auto-attack against a lane with real poke. Use Formless Blade at max range to chip the wave and start trades, and only commit Slipstream when you're confident it connects, since your entire trading pattern depends on refreshing its cooldown. Look to trade in short windows - Q, auto, dash out - rather than facetanking a lane you don't have priority in, and prioritize your first crit-chance item, since your passive and Q both come alive once crit starts converting into healing and armor penetration.

Mid & late game — teamfighting

Nilah wants chaos, not a clean poke war - she's built to dive into a grouped enemy team, not to whittle one down from range. Look for the moment the enemy clusters around an objective or a chase to fire Apotheosis: it slows them, pulls them together, and turns a share of the damage you deal to champions into healing and shields for you and nearby allies. Chain Slipstream off the ultimate to jump onto a priority target or to peel back toward a threatened carry, and keep swinging autos through the fight since every crit is quietly refilling your health bar. Save Jubilant Veil for whichever ally, including yourself, is closest to dying - hiding, speeding up, and cutting incoming magic damage for two people at once can flip a fight in a single cast.

Pro tips

  • Buy crit chance early and stack it aggressively: Formless Blade's bonus damage and armor penetration both scale directly off your current crit percentage, so cheap crit components often outperform flat AD in the early game.
  • Weave Formless Blade into your dash: casting it while Slipstream is still moving sends out a return wave, effectively hitting the same target a second time off one Q.
  • Track Slipstream's cooldown before you commit. If it's down and there's no ally nearby to fight for, take the disengage line instead of forcing an all-in you have no way to escape from.
