Who counters Viktor — hardest matchups & how to play them

The toughest lane matchups for Viktor on the Wild Rift China server, with why each is hard and exactly how to play it.

FizzViktor vs Fizz Hard counter

Why Fizz counters Viktor: Zero defenses against his all-in: your W comes too late if he starts, and scaling is useless to a dead man.

How to play Viktor into Fizz: W under your own feet BEFORE his jump: it is a zone, not a reaction. Farm with the laser from astronomical range and buy Zhonya's early.

→ Fizz
YasuoViktor vs Yasuo Unfavorable

Why Yasuo counters Viktor: The Wall blocks your Q and breaks your pattern, and his dashes cross your W before the stun arms.

How to play Viktor into Yasuo: W on the wave he MUST dash through, not on him. Trade only with the Wall spent. Your third item switches him off: arrive whole.

→ Yasuo
KassadinViktor vs Kassadin Unfavorable

Why Kassadin counters Viktor: He scales alongside you but with more mobility and anti-magic: from his 9 your zone control turns decorative.

How to play Viktor into Kassadin: Punish him with the laser on every cs before 5. Your window to close is items one through three: play with your team, not against him.

→ Kassadin
ZedViktor vs Zed Unfavorable

Why Zed counters Viktor: Slow casts and zero mobility against an assassin's R: without Zhonya's you are target practice.

How to play Viktor into Zed: Zhonya's Hourglass on the first possible recall. W on yourself from his 5 onward. Your empowered laser executes him as he reappears: aim at the return spot.

→ Zed
OriannaViktor vs Orianna Skill matchup

Why Orianna counters Viktor: A control mirror: ball versus laser. Whoever takes the first farm lead sets the game's tempo.

How to play Viktor into Orianna: Laser the wave while her ball is far away. Do not trade while her E shield is ready: wait until she uses it.

→ Orianna

Who to play with Viktor — best team synergies

The champions Viktor works best alongside on the Wild Rift China server, lane by lane, with the reason each pairing works.

Best Baron partners for Viktor

Viktor + Malphite Best pairing

Unstoppable Force (R) piles half their team into one spot: you drop Arcane Storm (R) on it, draw Hextech Ray (E) through the middle, and Gravity Field (W) stacks its three marks on people still in the air. He is also the frontline your page says you lack.

Viktor + Ornn Strong

Volcanic Rupture (Q) raises the wall and Searing Charge (E) slams the target into it even where there is no terrain, while Bellows Breath (W) applies Brittle, which stretches the crowd control that follows by 30%: your Gravity Field (W) stun lasts longer.

Viktor + Shen Strong

Your page says that with no dash and no blink, Fizz and Zed reach you before Gravity Field (W) ever arms: the long-range Shadow Dash (E) taunt pulls them off you, and Stand United (R) shields you from across the map while your bar is already dropping.

Viktor + Singed Strong

Fling (E) throws the target backwards and Mega Adhesive (W) under their feet roots them: they stay put for exactly as long as your zone needs to reach its third mark. It is the only way Gravity Field (W) ever stuns someone who owns a dash.

Viktor + Poppy Situational

Against dive-heavy comps: your page says a well-timed dash crosses Gravity Field (W) before it arms, and Steadfast Presence (W) turns that dash into a root. She is C tier at 48.3%, and that one button is the only reason to take her.

Best Jungle partners for Viktor

Viktor + Amumu Best pairing

Cursed Touch (P) makes every point of magic damage they take carry true damage with it, and your kit is magic from the first point to the last. Curse of the Sad Mummy (R) is 1.5 seconds of standing still: exactly the three marks Gravity Field (W) needs.

Viktor + Jarvan IV Best pairing

Gravity Field (W) has exactly one answer, walking out of it: Cataclysm (R) is a closed wall that removes that answer. Whoever ends up inside the ring stays there for the whole duration of Arcane Storm (R), with none of their team able to pull them out.

Viktor + Rammus Strong

Frenzying Taunt (E) nails the enemy carry inside your zone, and his page says the team has to supply the damage: that damage is you. Soaring Slam (R) knocks the group up and slows it, and meanwhile you finally have a frontline in front of you.

Viktor + Nunu & Willump Strong

His page says Absolute Zero (R) is a long channel you can simply walk out of: the Gravity Field (W) stun is what makes it land. And Biggest Snowball Ever! (W) knocks the whole group up right inside Arcane Storm (R).

Viktor + Xin Zhao Strong

You have no dash, no blink and your only exit is an evolved Siphon Power (Q): Crescent Guard (R) knocks back everyone except his marked target and blocks ranged damage, peeling the assassin off you the instant he lands.

Best Duo (ADC) partners for Viktor

Viktor + Ashe Best pairing

Frost Shot (P) slows with every single hit, and on slowed targets Gravity Field (W) actually reaches its third mark instead of being a puddle they walk around. Enchanted Crystal Arrow (R) opens from off-screen and you drop Arcane Storm (R) on top.

Viktor + Miss Fortune Strong

Her page says Bullet Time (R) is a stationary three-second channel that anyone with a dash walks around: Gravity Field (W) and the slow your evolutions smear across the whole kit keep them inside it. Both ultimates cover the same patch of ground.

Viktor + Yunara Strong

Arc of Judgment (W) is a near-total slow that lingers on the ground: whoever gets caught in it cannot leave Arcane Storm (R) or cross Gravity Field (W) in time. In return your zone is the peel her page says she needs and never gets.

Viktor + Jhin Strong

Deadly Flourish (W) roots anyone an ally has just damaged, and a Hextech Ray (E) fired from the back of the lane is enough to arm it. Just know you are both immobile: the other three have to supply the frontline.

Viktor + Smolder Situational

Worth it if you accept the long game: Glorious Evolution (P) and Dragon Practice (P) are two scaling win conditions and neither does anything at minute ten. In exchange Gravity Field (W) is the peel his page says he cannot give himself.

Best Support partners for Viktor

Viktor + Morgana Best pairing

What kills you is not damage, it is the crowd control that catches a mage with no dash: Black Shield (E) eats it. And Dark Binding (Q) roots for two seconds, longer than the three marks Gravity Field (W) has to stack.

Viktor + Thresh Strong

Death Sentence (Q) drags the target into Gravity Field (W) instead of hoping they walk in, Flay (E) knocks whoever reached you off, and the Dark Passage (W) lantern is your only exit while Siphon Power (Q) is on cooldown.

Viktor + Rakan Strong

Grand Entrance (W) into The Quickness (R) chains nearly two seconds of crowd control on the same targets: the group stands still under Arcane Storm (R) while Gravity Field (W) reaches its third mark. Then Battle Dance (E) dashes to you and shields you.

Viktor + Sona Strong

Crescendo (R) stuns the first target it touches and slows everyone else caught in the wave: that is the enemy team standing still under Arcane Storm (R). And Song of Celerity (E) hands you the movement speed an unevolved Siphon Power (Q) cannot.

Viktor + Braum Strong

Unbreakable (E) intercepts projectiles and cancels the first frontal hit outright: against the burst that kills a mage with no dash that is worth more than any heal. And Glacial Fissure (R) knocks up a whole line and slows it inside Arcane Storm (R).

How to play Viktor — Wild Rift guide, combos & tips

Viktor is a scaling mid-lane mage in Wild Rift built entirely around his passive, Glorious Evolution: every minion, monster, and champion kill earns Hex Core fragments that permanently upgrade his abilities as the match goes on. He deals sustained magic damage through poke and zone control rather than one big burst combo, chipping down lanes with Siphon Power and Hextech Ray before locking down team fights with Gravity Field and Arcane Storm. He's a patient, farm-first mage who gets more dangerous every minute the game runs.

Strengths

  • Scales relentlessly: Glorious Evolution turns every last hit and kill into permanent power, and once Siphon Power, Gravity Field, and Hextech Ray are all evolved, the Hex Core completes and empowers Arcane Storm too, so nobody snowballs a long game harder.
  • Strong wave clear and poke: Hextech Ray deals solid magic damage in a line through everything it hits, and its evolved ground-burst adds a second explosion of damage for free.
  • Real lockdown, not just soft CC: Gravity Field slows by 25% and stuns for 1.5 seconds once its marks stack three times, and the evolved version smears that slow onto Siphon Power, Hextech Ray, and Arcane Storm as well.
  • One of the best area-denial ultimates around: Arcane Storm interrupts channeled abilities and ticks damage for its whole duration, and once evolved it moves faster and grows bigger with every kill inside it.

Weaknesses

  • Zero mobility: no dash, no blink, nothing but a shield, so all-in assassins like Fizz or Zed can close the distance and burst him down before Gravity Field ever finishes stacking.
  • Soft until the fragments pile up: early levels mean thin damage and no evolved abilities yet, so lanes with strong early pressure can punish him before his scaling kicks in.
  • Every core tool is a skillshot or a stationary zone, so a well-timed dash or block — like Yasuo's Wall — cancels Hextech Ray or lets an enemy cross Gravity Field before the stun arms.
  • Thin peel for allies: his kit is built to protect himself, not his team, so he relies on his own frontline to keep divers off him rather than the other way around.

Combos

  • Siphon Power → auto-attack → Hextech Ray: Q's detonation queues 74 bonus magic damage on your next auto within 3.5 seconds, so firing that empowered hit and following through with the Ray chains three damage sources into one short trade.
  • Gravity Field → poke → Siphon Power: drop W on a target who can't step out immediately, keep poking as the marks stack every 0.5 seconds, then burst with Q the instant the third stack locks them down for 1.5 seconds.
  • Arcane Storm (dragged) + evolved Hextech Ray: throw the storm onto a grouped enemy team and draw an evolved Ray straight through the same space, so the beam's delayed ground burst and the storm's tick damage stack on top of each other.
  • Evolved Siphon Power as your escape: once Q is upgraded, casting it on whoever is chasing you grants a bigger shield plus 30% movement speed for 2.5 seconds — usually the only way Viktor disengages, since he has no other mobility.

Skill order: Q > E > W (Arcane Storm whenever available) — max Siphon Power first for trade damage and sustain, Hextech Ray second for wave clear and poke, Gravity Field last since its lockdown matters more in fights than in lane.

Early game

Viktor starts soft: without fragments banked yet, his trades are unimpressive, so stick to safe last-hits with Hextech Ray and Siphon Power rather than forcing fights. Farm every monster you can reach when the lane is safe, since Glorious Evolution rewards jungle camps exactly like minions, and crashing the wave with Hextech Ray lets you slip away and grab a few extra camps. Your first real spike lands once Siphon Power evolves: the bigger shield and movement speed let you trade far more aggressively and punish anyone who overextends to farm. Hold Gravity Field rather than throwing it away on cooldown — landing it on an already-low or overextended target usually converts straight into a kill or a forced Flash.

Mid & late game — teamfighting

From the mid-game on, Viktor plays as a back-line zone-control mage: never initiate, poke from max range with Hextech Ray, and let your frontline force the opening. In fights, drop Arcane Storm onto the enemy's cluster or the choke point they have to pass through, then drag it to follow the action as the fight moves — it keeps ticking damage and shuts down anyone trying to channel an ultimate inside it. Use Gravity Field to wall divers off your carries or to trap someone who wandered too far forward, and fire Siphon Power onto low-health targets to help secure kills and speed up your next evolution. Stay glued to your frontline throughout: Viktor has no dash or blink, so one clean flank from an assassin is usually a free kill for the enemy if he's caught alone.

Pro tips

  • Clear extra jungle camps whenever your lane is safe — Glorious Evolution counts monster kills the same as minions, so a couple of extra camps can evolve an ability a full step ahead of the enemy mage.
  • Use Hextech Ray's precise-aim option (hold the skill, then confirm direction) through narrow jungle paths or river chokes, where a rushed quick-cast is more likely to whiff a beam that only rewards a clean line.
  • Don't waste Arcane Storm's kill-extension early in a won fight — once the ultimate is evolved, every champion kill inside it lengthens and widens the storm (up to five times), so saving that scaling for the last team fight of the game turns it into a zone the enemy simply cannot stand in.
